ABOUT NAMGYALMA
(USHNISHA VIJAYA)


The Namgyalma or Ushnisha Vijaya in Sanskrit, is one of the three revered Buddhas of longevity and purification. Depicted as white in colour (to symbolise the elimination of all misfortunes), seated, with three faces and eight arms, holding various symbolic implements in each of her hands, she appears with sheer grace and peace. Her right face manifests her great compassion for all beings and her left face signifies her skill at cutting through ignorance via wrathful means. She bestows wisdom beyond measure and supreme life.

尊胜佛母是释迦牟尼佛无上顶所化现的,为三面八臂相:正面及身是白色,微笑的佛母相,天心开佛眼,是无上智慧的本尊。 右面黄色,是观世音菩萨无量慈悲的示现. 左面蓝色,是金刚手菩萨忿怒降伏的示现。 尊胜佛母与观世音菩萨、金刚手菩萨三者合一,具足无上智慧、慈悲、忿怒降伏的圆满功德。 因为是如来无上顶的显化,所以是无上尊贵的,称为「佛顶尊胜佛母」。

Features of Namgyalma

  • First right hand holding a Double Vajra of four colours signifying the accomplishment of all subjugating activities.
  • Second right hand holding Amitabha, signifying universal compassion
  • Third right hand holding an arrow signifying arousing the bodhicitta mind of all beings.
  • Fourth right hand in the gesture of giving, signifying granting of wishes
  • First left hand holding a noose with a vajra fist, signifying pacifying those hard to tame individuals.
  • Second left hand in gesture of granting fearlessness, signifying protecting all beings from fear.
  • Third left hand holding a bow signifying liberation from Samsara.
  • Fourth left hand in the gesture of meditation equipoise with a nectar vase upon it, signifying longevity and good health.

尊胜佛母形象的象征意义

  • 右第一手持四色十字金刚羯摩杵, 表降魔降灾事业成就。
  • 二手托莲座上有阿弥陀佛(亦或为大日如来)为其上师, 表怀爱。
  • 三手持箭代表勾召众生的悲心。
  • 四手施愿印置于右腿前,表示满足一切众生的心愿。
  • 左手第一手愤怒拳印持羂索,代表降伏一切难调伏之众生。
  • 二手上扬作施无畏印,代表使众生远离一切怖畏。
  • 三手持弓者,代表超胜三界。
  • 四手结定印上托甘露宝瓶,表示使众生得以长寿无病。

 

顶髻尊胜佛母真言的功德与利益
Benefits of Namgyalma Mantra

If you recite this mantra twenty-one times, blow upon mustard seeds and throw them onto the bones of even extremely evil beings who have created many heavy negative karmas, those beings will immediately be liberated from the lower realms and be reborn in a higher realm, such as that of a deva. Throwing seeds blessed by the Namgyalma mantra onto the bones or body of a dead being purifies that being's consciousness, and even though that being may have been reborn in hell or any other lower realm, that being can be reborn in a deva realm.

If you put this mantra in a stupa or on a banner inside your house or above the roof, whoever is touched by even the shadow of that stupa or banner will not be reborn in the lower realms. Also, any being touched by a breeze that has first touched a stupa, banner or statue containing this mantra is purified of the karma to be reborn in the lower realms. What need is there to mention, therefore, how great the purification experienced by those who recite this mantra or keep it on their body.

此顶髻尊胜佛母具有增寿与消除非时死亡之利益,尤其可清净一切破戒与违背学处之罪过,以白芥子、水、穀粉等等物品将此长咒或短咒唸诵二十一次,施於坟场屍体,即便过世几百年,亦可令其解脱叁恶趣,书写该咒佩带身中、或者置於佛塔内、家中、以及任何地方,皆有特别殊胜之功德。古往今来,许多寺庙皆依经典记载,以此圣咒竖幡立塔,让所有见闻者与尊胜佛母结缘;乃至让触过此幡塔的一沙一尘以及吹过的风皆带着尊胜佛母的加持,普利一切众生,免除他们落恶道之苦。
